SOLO INSTRUMENT
Solo Guitar
Dragsúgur was written for acoustic or electric solo guitar. It features angular rhythms and dissonant chords with a Frank Zappa meets Tom Waits flavor. It features a waltz feel in the beginning, which transitions to a driving rhythmic pulse utilizing invertible counterpoint and harmonics. The ending is a return to the angular waltz but with brief interjections of earlier gestures.
Solo Piano
Piano Etude No. 4 (for notes: D, D#, E, and F) is a short piece I wrote for solo piano. The number of the etude corresponds with the number of notes that are used in the piece. In Etude No. 4, I use the notes: D, D#, E, and F. Because I am limited to any D, D#, E, and F on the piano, it has forced me to think of how to develop the piece texturally and rhythmically instead of melodically and harmonically. I was inspired by Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata and his process for limiting his usage of notes when composing. This piece will be performed on the 10th of November at the Academy of Music Krakow by Ludger Hofmann-Engl.
